The Republican party in Congress just gave President Obama a gift he could not have imagined: independent support!
What Joe Wilson did on Wednesday night–show disrespect and lack of decorum during the President’s health care speech–and the fact that all kinds of right wing nuts came out of the woodwork to support Wilson, including the extremist talk show hosts on radio–only makes those who are registered independents realize that the GOP as a party, with only a few exceptions, is allowing itself to be hijacked by extremist right wing elements, who are unwilling to consider negotiation and or compromise with the Obama Administration, and are determined to destroy and wreck, rather than construct and contribute.
This will contribute to the deterioration of the GOP further than the defeats of 2006 and 2008 in Congress, and only when the party falls even further and hits rock bottom in support and membership, will they maybe, hopefully, finally repudiate the extremist elements and come back to moderation, and to an image of respectability in American politics.
So President Obama has received a gift which will definitely benefit not only him and his party, but the American people at large. This nation will say NO WAY to a party that has nothing constructive to say or do, and is only too willing to let radicals and troublemakers seize the machinery of the party!
It’s about time…..the only thing in recent memory that I can remember that the Republicans gave us was Bush….which is a memory I keep trying to remove from my mind.
Give this man a chance; you Republicans did hand him the worst cards in the deck – but he still chose to play. How any of you can let judgement fall from your lips after 8 years of Bush is beyond me. You all should be ashamed of yourselves! More of you should offer your support – as this country is hurting and your party is badly bleeding (and rightfully so).
Get your heads outta your @$$!
Most GOP members when asked about Joe Wilson’s outburst have called it inappropriate; however, they have disagreed with the manner in which the message was delivered rather than the message itself. There’s a void in party leadership, and for that, it is people like Joe Wilson and Michele Bachmann who will continue to be the face of the party until someone emerges as a credible and forceful leader. While these figures may appeal to the extreme elements of the base, their actions are damaging to the credibility and image of Republicans. It’s a tough decision to make, whether to align the party with the fringe elements or cooperate with the opposition, but it will be one of the crucial factors in whether or not the GOP rebounds in 2010 and 2012.
Michael,
It’s good to hear that his outburst is being looked down upon. However, you are living in a dream world if you think the public (after 8 years of BUSH) are going to sway to the Republican side in 2010 or 2012. You have as much chance of hitting the lotto. Get a grip – while your undying and unending hope I respect -there comes a point when those around you only see a fool.
Tate, I have to come to the defense of Michael as he is a former student of mine who has been misunderstood by you. š Believe me, Michael is NO REPUBLICAN SYMPATHIZER LOL. He does not live in a “dream world” as he is a loyal Democrat! š He DOES NOT have “undying and unending hope” for the GOP . Michael is no fool–in fact he is very bright and smart and knows the Democrats have the better answers! š
Tate, my comments were made from an objective standpoint. I indicated that Republicans have to make a choice that is critical to the future electoral success of their party. As Ron said, i am not a Republican, and don’t have any desire to see the Republican Party in its current state become the dominant party in Congress, or take the presidency in 2010 or 2012. But democratic countries should have healthy choices, and it would be much better to see the GOP provide a sensible and rational alternative, for as Karl Rove and other Republican strategists have learned, there is no such thing as permanent, one party majority rule.
Michael,
I would agree. You had better watch yourself, however….that kinda talk can produce “late night knocks at the door” there in Texas š
In any event, i have re-read your post and offer you my apology. š
