Mitt Romney was born with a “silver spoon” in his mouth to a father who was a success story in the auto industry.
Mitt Romney had the opportunity to attend Harvard for a law degree and a business degree.
Mitt Romney was able to use personal contacts, through his wealthy family, to multiply the wealth of the Romney family.
Mitt Romney grew up with an attitude of entitlement, that he was ordained to lead because of his family connections and business contacts.
Mitt Romney is not the first modern President to have similar advantages.
Theodore Roosevelt had these advantages. So did Franklin D. Roosevelt,. John F. Kennedy, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush.
But none of the above wore their wealth quite like Mitt Romney!
All of them engaged in politics more than Mitt Romney, who took the route of the least government service and experience, a minimum four years as Massachusetts Governor.
All of the other wealthy Presidents at birth had their own character flaws and shortcomings as we all do.
But none of them were cocky and arrogant, at least in public, quite like Mitt Romney is!
And none of their wives quite acted as Ann Romney is displaying, also an attitude of entitlement and arrogance!
It is one thing to be wealthy. It is another thing to boast about it, to emphasize it, to be cocky and arrogant, and act as if one is entitled!
What Mitt Romney and Anne Romney lack is a sense of modesty and humility!
The other Presidents tried very hard to make the American people forget their personal wealth and status, although, of course, it was there for all to see!
But Mitt and Anne Romney exude wealth, and make it out to be a virtue they wish to publicize.
And no one really likes a wealthy person who acts this way. It is not a nice character trait to brag or to boast.
Rather, it is nice when one goes out of his or her way to divert attention to one’s wealth, and to show concern for average Americans who are not so fortunate.
So Theodore Roosevelt showed concern with labor rights.
So Franklin D. Roosevelt showed concern about the poor during the Great Depression.
So John F. Kennedy planned a War on Poverty, and concern about racial discrimination.
So George H. W. Bush showed concern about the problems of the disabled and handicapped.
So George W. Bush showed concern about health care prescription costs for senior citizens.
How has Mitt Romney displayed concern for those less fortunate than himself?
The answer is that he has NOT displayed concern for anyone less fortunate, wanting to see the auto industry collapse, as just the tip of the iceberg as to his lack of care about how ordinary people are affected in their daily lives. He has displayed lack of concern about labor rights, the plight of the poor, discrimination against Hispanics and Latinos, and the cutting of Medicaid for the disabled and elderly.
This man has no “heart”, and while one who is cynical might argue that the other wealthy Presidents were just putting on a facade of concern, the old saying goes: Action speaks louder than words!
Hello Professor,
A very good and concise list suitable for referencing….and framing. 🙂
I would also add that as many do not know, John F. Kennedy, due to his personal family wealth, did not take a pay check when he was President of the United States.
I would venture a guess that Mitt Romney, with all of his personal wealth, could not be counted on to do the same.
I present evidence to support my statement above:
When the Romney campaign disclosed in December that the couple’s five sons had a $100 million trust fund, you had to suspect that in setting up the fund, the Romneys used a tax strategy that allows some very rich people to avoid paying gift taxes. But it was impossible to know if this was the case without seeing their tax returns going back years.
So when Mitt Romney released the family’s 2010 tax return last week, folks started looking, and here it is, the hint on pages 132 and 134 of the return. It showed that the value of property placed that year into another family trust, the “Ann D. Romney Blind Trust,” was, for tax purposes, “ZERO.†The Ann Romney trust is not the same trust as the one that holds the Romney sons’ $100 million, but I wondered if the Romneys used the same approach in prior years when it came to valuing property placed into the sons’ trust.
Reuters emailed the Romney campaign spokeswoman to ask how much the Romneys paid in gift taxes on assets put into the sons’ trust over the last 17 years. The spokeswoman, citing Brad Malt, the Romney family tax lawyer, answered: NONE.
The idea that someone could pay ZERO gift taxes on contributions to a $100 million trust fund may surprise people who have heard arguments that the wealthy are overburdened by “Gift and Estate Taxes.” (What?!?! Say it ain’t so!!) But the Romneys’ gift-tax avoidance strategy is perfectly legal. (Go Figure?!?!)
What a bitter diatribe. Mitt’s father was penniless and developed some wealth.. I cannot find the number, but wonder if it was much different from the solver spoons Obama’s 10.5 million is putting in his daughters’ mouths. Mitt multiplied whatever he got, but it the professor were honest, he would talk about the Romneys living in a $68/month cramped apartment and Ann helping fund them. He might also mention Ann’s MS and cancer. OR perhaps the 15% of his income he gives away, as fsr higher percentage than the Obamas and most Democrats who are only generous with other people’s money.
Truth is elusive with the haters. I don’t see any outrage at the obscene wealth of Hollywood actors, Rap artists, or sports figures. Tiger before his divorce was worth about 4 times Romney. Romney’s cars are exceedingly modest comared to other people of means. It is just about hate and stereotyping and prejudice. Period.
It is interesting that you call yourself “Architect of Truth”, as most of what you say above is totally inaccurate.
Romney is wealthier than the last eight Presidents combined! His father was the Chief Executive of American Motors, and was very wealthy when Mitt was growing up, if not earlier in George Romney’s life. I would not call George Romney a person of just “some wealth”.
Obama is not worth what you say, and only earned about a million last year. Mitt’s time as a missionary would have been inappropriate if he had lived in luxury, but he has ever since. Ann Romney having cancer and MS has been mentioned in an earlier post, if you had read it. His income is given to his church, not to other charities, and the Mormon Church requires a tithe of 10 percent of every family.
Romney pays a much lower rate on his income than the average middle class family, and Mitt cannot relate to middle class people, and instead plans a mansion with a auto elevator, sending the wrong message to the average voter.
Tiger Woods has never been worth as much as Mitt Romney, and my post is not a question of hate, just the truth, which you cannot handle, and instead you do what you said I have done, a bitter diatribe, but mine is based on fact, not anger. There is no stereotyping or prejudice, just the facts, whether you like it or not!
