Finally, The Impeachment Of Donald Trump Is Moving Toward Action, With Likelihood Of Four Articles Of Impeachment

Finally, the House of Representatives is ready to begin a formal move toward impeachment of President Donald Trump, with the vote to come tomorrow, Thursday.

There are so many crimes and abuses under Donald Trump, but having too many impeachment articles would be counterproductive. Easily, Trump is much more a long list of outrages in office, than a combination of Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Bill Clinton combined.

It seems clear that four counts would make the best sense:

Obstruction of Justice

Abuse of Power

Contempt of Congress

Violation of the Emoluments Clause

It is likely that the articles of impeachment will occur either before Thanksgiving or in early December, with the Senate trial taking place in January 2020, hopefully resolved before the Iowa Caucuses, the New Hampshire Primary, the South Carolina Primary. and the Nevada Caucuses.

Certainly, by the time of Super Tuesday on March 3, 2020, when 14 states vote, the issue should be resolved, with little chance of gaining a two thirds vote to convict and remove Trump, but it should not be regarded as a long shot. There will be some Republican Senators voting to remove, and with more evidence coming out, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that more Republicans than a few could vote to convict, although to accomplish 20 or more Republicans out of the 53 in the Senate seems unlikely.

AFTER DC BALLPARK BOOING, CHICAGOANS SURROUND TRUMP EVENT WITH SOUND AND FURY: Protesters gather along the Chicago River as President Trump attends fundraisers at the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago; by William Rivers Pitt, 29oct19.

I’ve booed some of the greatest baseball players ever to grace the game, and I’m not a bit sorry for it. Booing is as much a part of the ballpark experience as hot dogs and the sweaty guy behind you who keeps kicking your seat. When a player or manager screws up badly or is wearing the wrong laundry, they are going to hear about it. That is how that goes.

When I was a kid sitting in the bleachers at Boston’s hallowed Fenway Park, Reggie Jackson would patrol right field almost close enough to touch in his detested Yankee pinstripes, and we would let him have it every time he showed his face. Later, it was Derek Jeter in the same despised uniform. He played shortstop, so we had to pull our boos way up from our shoelaces to make sure he heard us. He did.

Scattered boos at the game are entirely commonplace, but a full-throated Everyone Boo is special. It is an exhilarating community event, and when it happens, the guy kicking your seat as he boos over your shoulder is your sudden brother. When done properly, when everyone’s in it, when the decibels surpass annoyance and pin the needle to wrath, the building shakes enough to make the TV cameras tremble. You are your own thunderstorm in that moment, a collective demigod hurling thunderbolts at the puny mortals below.

Donald Trump got a full serving of the Everyone Boo experience with dessert and a mint on Sunday night when he peeked out of his bubble for the very first time to take in a World Series game at Nationals Park in the District. They flashed his grimacing, rubbery visage on the Jumbotron and the crowd went ballistic for many long, sustained minutes.

“It is likely that the articles of impeachment will occur either before Thanksgiving or in early December, with the Senate trial taking place in January 2020, HOPEFULLY resolved before the Iowa Caucuses, the New Hampshire Primary, the South Carolina Primary. and the Nevada Caucuses.” [EMPHASIS added.]

Why, specifically, “hopefully,” Professor? And what happens if it’s not?

    “Certainly, by the time of Super Tuesday on March 3, 2020, when 14 states vote, the issue SHOULD BE resolved, with little chance of gaining a two thirds vote to convict and remove Trump, but…” [EMPHASIS added.}

Again: And what happens if it is not?

Jeffrey, it is clear that the impeachment process and trial will not drag out longer than the time frame mentioned, and even Mitch McConnell indicates so.

You seem to be trying to bait me with your sarcasm and negativism, but I am not going to take the bait, so comment as you wish, but I will not react to most of it.

Good! Trump deserved to be booed!

What will happen is that we will vote out Republicans who side with Trump in 2020.
