The fifth Democratic Presidential debate in Atlanta on Wednesday solidified Pete Buttigieg, Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, as the most impressive person on the stage, defending himself in a professional manner.
Kamala Harris and Cory Booker also improved their position relative to the others, while Elizabeth Warren held her own.
Joe Biden, unfortunately, flubbed and hesitated, and just seemed “old”, not improving his position, and not raising large amounts of money, but still a front runner in many polls.
Tom Steyer is clearly going nowhere, and the most disturbing candidate was Tulsi Gabbard, who seems too close to Fox News propaganda, and just comes across as totally unacceptable, and being a Congresswoman from Hawaii is, if anything, less significant, than dealing with urban problems, as Mayor Pete has for the past seven plus years.
The fact that Gabbard has been in the military is overshadowed by the fact that Mayor Pete also has, and Gabbard has no chance to be the nominee.
Neither, ultimately, does Andrew Yang or Bernie Sanders, who has been co opted by Warren, while Amy Klobuchar chugs along, looking more like a potential Vice Presidential choice.
Ronald writes, “The fact that [Tulsi] Gabbard has been in the military is overshadowed by the fact that Mayor Pete [Buttigieg] also has, and Gabbard has no chance to be the nominee.â€
I disagree.
One can see, from this debate moment (video is below), that Pete Buttigieg does not overshadow Tulsi Gabbard.
What that debate moment reveals is that—despite any poll reports (and keep in mind where we are on the timeline) indicating he has more potential to win the nomination—Pete Buttigieg is not a leader and is not worthy of the presidency of the United States.
With a deeper analysis of the November 20, 2019 debate moment between Pete Buttigieg and Tulsi Gabbard comes this below video, from “The Jimmy Dore Show,†which includes a transcript and a video interview of his stated position, about the U.S. helping Mexico fight its drug cartels, by the mayor of South Bend, Indiana.
Buttigieg’s (and the corporate Democratic Party Establishment’s as well as their allies in corporate “news†media’s) smears against Gabbard for having met with Syria president Bashar al-Assad (by the way, so did U.S. House speaker Nancy Pelosi) is being pushed with a narrative as some supposed scandal as if this is not to be done. (Well, as Gabbard pointed out in that debate, it has been done plenty of times especially with former U.S. presidents.) This is telling—this pro-war/anti-peace position from corporate Democrats, the party establishment, their allies in corporate “news†media—because this was being also pushed by the late warmonger and then-Republican presidential nominee John McCain against then-Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama during the United States presidential election of 2008.
Gabbard’s clearly running in the wrong primary.
Biden’s campaign is having phone banks this weekend. We don’t like to contribute over the phone, so we are going to send checks by mail.
Rustbelt Democrat writes, “[Tulsi Gabbard is] clearly running in the wrong primary.â€
No.
It’s the candidates—and this very much includes former U.S. vice president Joe Biden—who are opposed to Medicare for All, as one example of a major issue, who are running in the wrong political party’s primary.
Tulsi Gabbard supports Medicare for All, for one issue, and she wants the wars (like with the regime-change wars) ended.
For a “Democratic†Party, which over a decade ago was angry over Republican U.S. President George W. Bush (and his allies), lying to get us into war in Iraq, this used to be the position of lots of Proud Democrats.
Exactly Rustbelt. Tulsi is clearly a closeted R.
Princess Leia writes, “ Exactly Rustbelt. Tulsi is clearly a closeted R.â€
If being against endless wars, and regime-change wars, is what one can to expect to find with the Republican Party, does this mean we can expect the Democratic Party to be the new home for the likes of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and John Bolton?
When you go to Tucker Carlson’s KKK show or Bigotbart to do interviews, I don’t consider you to be a Democrat.
Seconded, Leia. You’re not going to get votes from left-wingers when you go to right-wing extremist sites like Breitbart.
Princess Leia and Pragmatic Progressive,
Have CNN and/or MSNBC ever welcomed as a guest Tulsi Gabbard?
Has Fox News Channel ever welcomed as a guest the likes of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton?
D – Tucker Carlson and Breitbart are outlets for racists. True Democrats don’t go on their shows because of that.
Elizabeth Warren refuses to go on Fox. She says “it’s a hate-for-profit racket that gives a megaphone to racist and conspiracists. It’s designed to turn us against each other, risking life and death consequences, to provide cover for the corruption that’s rotting our government and hollowing out our middle class.”

I share her principled stance against their hatred and bigotry.
Bloomberg to announce 2020 presidential campaign imminently.

Only reason he’s jumping in is because he’s scared Liz or Bernie will get the nomination.
Bloomberg – Stay out of it. We don’t need you.
Gabbard’s supporters are primarily young, white males, who tend to lean conservative. Most women aren’t interested in her, neither are most blacks.

She’s not connecting with blacks and women because she doesn’t talk about domestic issues (racism, abortion, etc.) as much as Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, or Amy Klobuchar do. Plus, black Democrats and female Democrats are strongly against Fox, Breitbart, Drudge, etc.
Perhaps black Democrats and female Democrats don’t like that she’s attacking leadership that is increasingly looking like them.
Former Republican writes, “D – Tucker Carlson and Breitbart are outlets for racists. True Democrats don’t go on their shows because of that.â€
If Fox News Channel allows for Tulsi Gabbard to speak about her anti-war platform, while the likes of CNN and MSNBC and ABC’s “The View†(etc.) spend their airtime smearing Gabbard for, in reality, being anti-war, that makes appearing on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News program of more value.
I have seen clips of these Democratic Party Establishment-friendly networks doing that against Gabbard. I know this traces back to 2016, after she stepped down from the DNC and endorsed not Hillary Clinton but Bernie Sanders.
If Gabbard is getting a fair shake by Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson, while not experiencing that from CNN and MSNBC and “The View,†this talk of Carlson’s program being for racists isn’t compelling and persuasive enough. It makes more a statement about CNN, MSNBC, and “The View†being connected with pro-war/pro-MIC, pro-corporate Democratic Party Establishment propaganda.
“True Democratsâ€â€”along with True Republicans, True Libertarians, True Green Party politicians, etc.—must be willing to go anywhere (meaning, these major and/or well-known outlets, yes, but not necessary just those) for interviews, discussions and, when necessary, to argue for and defend their policy positions for what leadership they may and/or can and/or do offer. (This very much includes fellow 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren.)
D, while I do NOT agree with you on the virtues of Tulsi Gabbard, and right now am a Pete Buttigieg fan, I DO agree that everyone should go on all programming possible, and that all candidates should be welcomed to appear.
I side with Leia. Elizabeth Warren has it right.
Breaking news is that Bloomberg is now in.
I think that doing a town hall on Fox is ok, but going on Hannity is a no no.
Our family and friends influence us more so than the media does. They don’t like Gabbard. They often describe her as cold and creepy. They don’t see her as a viable candidate.
Why South Carolina Will Be The Most Important Early Primary

New Quinnipiac poll has Mayor Pete surging to second.

That might be an outlier. CNN has Mayor Pete in 4th place, joining Biden, Liz, and Bernie in double digits for the first time. No other candidate reaches 4%. A cluster of four candidates stand at 3%, including the latest entrant to the race, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. He is joined by Sen. Kamala Harris of California and businessmen Tom Steyer and Andrew Yang. Sens. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Cory Booker of New Jersey have 2% each in the poll.
