Democratic State Governors To Watch, As Future Of Party!

Any concern about the future of the Democratic Party is gone, as once Joe Biden has become President for a second term, or decides not to run, opening up potential for other Democrats, the party has a “bench” of fantastic governors who care about public health and safety, and who are compassionate and empathetic human beings.

This is in reference to the following Democratic state governors, no special order:

Gavin Newsom of California
J B. Pritzker of Illinois
Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania
Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan
Wes Moore of Maryland
Jared Polis of Colorado
Laura Kelly of Kansas

At least the first five listed are potential Presidential contenders in the future, and with Pritzker and Shapiro being Jewish; Whitmer (along with Kelly) being female; Moore being African American; Polis being gay; and Newsom being an original promoter of gay rights and gay marriage.

At the same time, the Republicans have potential Presidential contenders, who are more concerned about being nasty, vicious, divisive, confrontational, and have no concern about public health and safety, including:

Ron DeSantis of Florida
Greg Abbott of Texas
Kristi Noem of South Dakota

There is also Chris Sununu of New Hampshire (an exception, not as extreme and confrontational as the other three listed).

Of course, there are also soon to be former governor Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas; and former governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, who are more like Chris Sununu.

Additionally, soon to be former governors Larry Hogan of Maryland and Charlie Baker of Massachusetts come across as more decent, but like Hutchinson and Christie, unlikely to get very far in the Presidential race for 2024!

Donald Trump, Election Deniers, Dobbs Decision Are Losers In Midterm Election!

Not all election results are in this quickly, but it is clear that the Republican Party has NOT had a “Red Wave”, and at most, might have a “Pink Splash”, as it now seems that while they may control the House of Representatives, it will be a razor thin margin!

Also, the Senate may end up 50-50 again, or with John Fetterman’s victory in Pennsylvania, might end up with a 51-49 Democratic controlled Senate.

Clearly, Donald Trump was a loser in this election, with many of his choices losing, although not all, and “Election Deniers” losing in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania at the least, with Arizona still up in the air!

The Dobbs decision against abortion rights also was a loser in many states, and the chances of a national abortion ban is no longer possible.

So overall, on first examination, Joe Biden and the Democratic Party managed to do better than any party in the White House in a midterm election could have imagined!

The Presidential Election Of 2024 Has Begun For The Republican Party!

The Presidential Election of 2024 has begun for the Republican Party.

The easy victory of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis puts him in the forefront of a challenge to former President Donald Trump.

The two men are clearly no longer “friends”, but instead are hostile rivals, and Trump influence already seems far less influential, as a number of Trump endorsed candidates are clearly not doing well in early returns, although final results are not yet available.

That does not mean that DeSantis is on the way to the Republican Presidential nomination, as there is a whole slew of candidates who will enter the race, including those who are clearly not favored by Donald Trump, but also will not sit by and just allow DeSantis to be “coronated”!

Projections On Midterm Elections Of 2022

Here we are, a day before the Midterm Elections of 2022, so it is time to project the results, with trepidation about what is likely to happen tomorrow.

The odds are heavily in favor of the Republicans winning the House of Representatives, since they only need to gain five seats, so sadly, my projection is that they will gain about 20 seats, giving them an edge of about 15 seats–so a balance of about 232-203.

The Senate will remain Democratic in my estimate, with the following results:

Retention of presently held Democratic seats:

Mark Kelly, Arizona
Raphael Warnock, Georgia
Maggie Hassan, New Hampshire

However, the loss of Catherine Cortez Masto in Nevada!

Open Seats Gained by Democrats:

Tim Ryan, Ohio
John Fetterman, Pennsylvania
Mandela Barnes, Wisconsin

The end result would be 52 Democrats and Independents and 48 Republicans!

In the Governorships, Democrats gain seats:

Wes Moore, Maryland
Maura Healey, Massachusetts
Beto O’Rourke, Texas

So we would end up with 25 Democrats and 25 Republicans as Governors of their states.

So the elections will be a mixed bag, with both Democrats and Republicans able to claim vindication.

Sadly, however, Florida will remain strongly Republican both for the US Senate and the Governorship.

The Midterm Elections of 2022 will be seen as a “Red Ripple”, with less of a repudiation of Joe Biden than it was for earlier Presidents who saw much greater losses!

A List Of 52 Conservatives And Former Republicans Who Have Repudiated Donald Trump

Whether a majority of Americans realize it, the Midterm Elections of 2022 are the most significant midterm elections in American history.

American democracy is at stake, and it is terrifying to consider that many states may elect “Election Deniers” who will refuse to obey the popular vote in their states in the upcoming Presidential Election of 2024.

It is also seen as likely that political violence, particularly motivated by Right Wing MAGA extremists, will become a common trend in the next two years up to that election.

The historical traditions of the Republican Party have been hijacked by Donald Trump and his Fascist supporters, causing many mainstream conservatives to repudiate the party, and many resigning from membership.

Among them are the following 52 public and influential conservatives and Republicans who have repudiated Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans:

Liz Cheney
Adam Kinzinger
George W. Bush
William Cohen
Chuck Hagel
Michael Hayden
James Mattis
Tom Ridge
Christine Todd Whitman
Miles Taylor
John Bolton
Bill Kristol
Peggy Noonan
Lisa Murkowski

Charlie Baker
Larry Hogan
Phil Scott

Potential Future Presidential Candidates If They Win Office On Tuesday

There are a number of Democrats running for the US Senate or the Governorships who can be seen long term as potential future Presidential candidates if they win on Tuesday.

They would include the following:

Tim Ryan running for the Senate in Ohio
Mandela Barnes running for the Senate in Wisconsin

Josh Shapiro running for the Governorship in Pennsylvania
Wes Moore running for the Governorship in Maryland
Gretchen Whitmer running for the Governorship in Michigan (reelection)
J B Pritzker running for the Governorship in Illinois (reelection)
Gavin Newsom running for the Governorship in California (reelection)
Beto O’Rourke running for the Governorship in Texas

A Clear And Present Danger To Democracy: Kari Lake, Doug Mastriano And Other Republicans!

With four days to go to the Midterm Elections of 2022, there is great concern about intimidation being used to prevent people from voting in various states, but even more disturbing is the declaration by many MAGA Republicans that they will not accept and acknowledge defeat if the voting totals show they have lost.

Gubernatorial nominees, including Kari Lake in Arizona, Doug Mastriano in Pennsylvania, Tim Michels in Wisconsin, Tudor Dixon in Michigan, along with candidates for Secretary of State or Attorney General in many states, have declared war on truth, and are a clear and present danger to American democracy!

There is also concern about possible violence erupting, as it is understood that this is a testing moment, the first national vote since the January 6, 2021 US Capitol Insurrection.

America is endangered by these right wing extremists who seem to be ready to declare elections over, with automatic assertions of control now and into the future as their mission.

Law enforcement and the Department of Justice must make clear such assertions will be dealt with in an appropriate manner, and bullyism will not be tolerated!

Potential For Four New African American Senators

There have been 11 African American Senators in the 234 years of US Senate history.

Presently, there are three—Republican Tim Scott of South Carolina; and Democrats Cory Booker of New Jersey and Raphael Warnock of Georgia.

Prominent earlier African American Senators included Democrats Carol Moseley Braun and Barack Obama of Illinois; Democrat Kamala Harris of California; and Republican Edward Brooke of Massachusetts.

Now, there is the possibility of four additional African American Senators, if fortune works out.

They include: Mandela Barnes in Wisconsin; Cheri Beasley in North Carolina; Charles Booker in Kentucky; and Val Demings of Florida.

Barnes is competing against Ron Johnson in Wisconsin; Beasley againast Ted Budd in North Carolina; Booker against Rand Paul in Kentucky; and Demings against Marco Rubio in Florida.

All of these races are tight in polls, except Booker against Paul in Kentucky, where Booker is at a major disadvantage.

Also, Warnock is in a tight race against Republican Herschel Walker in Georgia, with both being African Americans.

Democrat Tim Ryan Deserves To Be Elected As Ohio Senator

Ohio has an opportunity to elect a Congressman who has made a distinguished record in the House of Representatives for the past 20 years to be its new US Senator.

Tim Ryan is clearly a person of distinction and principle, who would join Democrat Sherrod Brown in the Senate, and replace Republican Senator Rob Portman, one of the small number of Republican leaders who performed in a reputable fashion in his years in the upper body of Congress.

Ohio deserves to have two principled Democrats who care about the state and the nation, not about pleasing Fascist demagogue Donald Trump, as Republican Senate nominee J D Vance does (after having denounced Trump in 2016). Vance also is an “Election Denier”, regarding the Presidential Election of 2020, so cannot be trusted with power in the Senate!

Affirmative Action On The Block Before The Supreme Court

Affirmative Action has been a social policy for the past half century, and has allowed many people of color and women, who had been denied equality throughout American history, to have the opportunity to advance educationally, and enter many fields of work where they had been denied entrance.

Unfortunately, others, who were Caucasian, or male, or even Asian American ethnicity, lost opportunities that might have been theirs if there was no affirmative action programs.

So this issue is very complicated, but in the long run of history, it could be argued that affirmative action has been a positive concept, as unfortunately, there will always be those who are on the short end of any social change.

But, it is hard to believe that those who have been denied have not managed to succeed, just in a different manner and circumstance, as life is a challenge, and one cannot always gain everything one wants.

So, overall, it would be helpful if some form of affirmative action survived in the Supreme Court, as it now considers this issue, although it seems unlikely that it will survive this right wing Court in the present circumstances!
