Prospects For Democratic Congress Improve Due To Kamala Harris Candidacy

The prospects for a Democratic controlled 119th Congress (2025-2027) have been vastly improved by the Presidential candidacy of Kamala Harris, and her Vice Presidential running mate Tim Walz.

Things looked gloomy before Joe Biden decided to withdraw, but now the excitement over Harris and Walz have boosted the hopes for Democrats to regain control of the House of Representatives, and maintain and maybe gain seats in the US Senate.

Public opinion polls show a boost in the candidacies of incumbent Democratic Senators all over the nation, and the prospects for gaining seats in the House in New York, Florida, and California seem promising.

And there are hopes that possibly three Republican Senators, who are not very popular, could lose their seats.

Rick Scott in Florida, Ted Cruz in Texas, and Josh Hawley in Missouri face tight races for now at least, from Debbie Mucarsel Powell, Collin Allred, and Lucas Kunce, respectively.

If at least one of these unpopular Senators were to lose, that would be a major boost for the Democrats.

A Fox News poll released Wednesday shows Harris improving on Biden’s reelection polling in the key battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina, putting her in a close race with Trump in those states.

The new polling, conducted in the days immediately following the Democratic National Convention and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropping out of the race to endorse Trump, finds Harris ahead by 2 points in Georgia and Nevada, ahead by 1 point in Arizona and trailing Trump by 1 point in North Carolina. (The margin of error for the individual state polling is 3%.)

Those numbers are a significant improvement over Biden’s from earlier this year — the president trailed Trump by 5 to 6 points in all those states.

Trump’s campaign, in a press release, immediately dismissed Fox’s polling as “atrocious.”

The Cook Political Report has moved the state of North Carolina from “lean Republican” to a “toss-up,” as Harris appears to be closing the gap with Trump in the Tar Heel State.

The former president won North Carolina by just over one percentage point in 2020.

Cook’s analysis also found that Democrats’ prospects have improved both in New Hampshire and Minnesota, which they now rate as “likely Democrat.”
