Magnificent, Dramatic, Inspiring Third Evening Of Democratic National Convention!

What a magnificent, dramatic, inspiring third evening of the Democratic National Convention of 2024!

Among the speakers:

Bill Clinton—Nancy Pelosi—Hakeem Jeffries—Chris Murphy—Josh Shapiro—Wes Moore—Amy Klobuchar—Pete Buttigieg —Republicans Olivia Troye and Geoff Duncan—Oprah Winfrey–and of course, Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz!

The speeches by the above individuals and others were among the most exceptional that this author and blogger can remember over the decades of paying attention to national conventions.

The sense is that there is definite momentum in the Harris-Walz Presidential campaign.

It was wonderful seeing the speech, particularly, of Oprah Winfrey, which is bound to have an effect, due to the great regard millions of people have for her!

Bill Clinton gave one of his best speeches in his post Presidency, and Josh Shapiro gave a masterful performance of his oratory. Wes Moore and Pete Buttigieg are both young leaders who will be heard from in the future, and their presentations were outstanding!

And ultimately, Tim Walz, who very few knew much about a few weeks ago, is clearly a tremendous asset and talent, adding greatly to Kamala Harris’s campaign, and will inspire many Americans, not only to vote, but also as an example of compassion, empathy, and common decency, in the vein of Joe Biden!

THe Harris-Walz team will make history in November, and help to advance America!

Tim Walz-JD Vance Vice Presidential Debate Set For October 1

CBS will sponsor a Vice Presidential debate between Democratic nominee Tim Walz and Republican nominee JD Vance on Tuesday, October 1.

The vast and dramatic differences between Walz and Vance will be on display, with Walz having made a great positive impact, and Vance being seen as a total disaster, with some Trump supporters wishing he would disappear.

Vance is making it clear that he is connected to right wing billionaire Peter Thiel, and is perceived as a threat in the future, the true heir of MAGA Republicans, as the long range leader after Donald Trump, who might not survive psychologically through a full term, were he to be elected.

Vance has jumped on “single cat ladies”, and Walz’s long military service as issues, neither of which promotes the Republican party future, as only alienating independent voters, as well as women, young people, and racial minorities, all veering toward the Democrats.

Walz comes across as a very decent, compassionate former educator and coach, in the tradition of Hubert Humphrey and other Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor party luminaries of the past, as well as the present, such as Amy Klobuchar.

The 20 year age difference between Walz and Vance will be an advantage for Walz, while the opposite is the case for the nearly 20 year difference between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, when they have their ABC debate on September 10.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Surprise VP Choice, But Excellent Selection!

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is a surprise Vice Presidential choice for Kamala Harris, but is an excellent addition to the ticket, and will know how to go after the jugular vein of both Donald Trump and JD Vance.

Tim Walz is in the Democratic progressive tradition and heritage of Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale, Eugene McCarthy, Paul Wellstone, Al Franken, and Amy Klobuchar.

Walz will help insure electoral support from next door Michigan and Wisconsin, attract rural and small town American support in the Midwest, and has a exceptional record of accomplishment as Minnesota Governor for the past six years, after serving in the House of Representatives for twelve years from 2007-2019.

Walz was an educator and football coach after serving in the National Guard, and is proud of his progressive agenda in Minnesota, and will know how to take the fight against the right wing Republicans to the nation at large.

Walz is a genuine and decent human being, unlike the impression that JD Vance and Donald Trump give in public image!

All Star Lineup For Four Nights Of Democratic National Convention

The Democratic National Convention is being held remotely this week from Monday to Thursday, and there will be an all star cast of speakers each evening.

Monday night, the speakers will include, among others–Amy Klobuchar, Andrew Cuomo, Gretchen Whitmer, Doug Jones, James Clyburn, Bernie Sanders, and Michelle Obama, along with Republican John Kasich.

Tuesday night, the speakers will include, among others—Chuck Schumer, John Kerry, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bill Clinton, and Dr. Jill Biden.

Wednesday night, the speakers will include, among others—Elizabeth Warren, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris, and Barack Obama.

Thursday night, the speakers will include, among others—Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, Gavin Newsom, Keisha Lance Bottoms, Tammy Baldwin, Tammy Duckworth, Chris Coons, Andrew Yang, and Presidential nominee Joe Biden.

It will be an opportunity for the Democrats to display all of their “stars”, who have, together, contributed to the present day version of a party that has done so much for America over the decades since Franklin D. Roosevelt onward, responsible for most of the domestic reforms and foreign policy stability that marks the periods of Democratic Party control of Congress and the White House!

The Best African American Female Vice Presidential Choice For Joe Biden

The African American Washington Post columnist Jonathan Capehart today published a piece, in which he discussed four prominent African American female contenders to be Joe Biden’s Vice Presidential running mate.

Capehart wrote about Georgia former state legislator Stacey Abrams; Orlando, Florida Congresswoman Val Demings; former National Security Adviser and United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice; and California Senator Kamala Harris.

Capehart made the case for all four women, and concluded that he believed that while all four are qualified to be Vice President, and potentially succeed to the Presidency, that Kamala Harris was his choice.

This blogger and author wishes to say that Capehart is correct, that Kamala Harris is the best qualified, and in my mind, the only other one of this group who is ready to take over the Presidency on a moment’s notice is Susan Rice with her foreign policy experience, but no elective experience.

Abrams is interesting, but has never been a leader on the state executive level, and Demings has her police chief background, but has only been a Congresswoman since 2017.

So assuming that Joe Biden decides to pick a woman of color, it makes the most sense to select Kamala Harris.

If however, he decides to avoid race as a factor, then his best choice is Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar.

The odds seem good one of these Senators will be the ultimate Vice Presidential choice for Joe Biden.

Joe Biden And Stacey Abrams Put On Stellar Performance On MSNBC On Thursday Evening!

With Joe Biden leading in all polls in most, if not all, of the “swing states” in the upcoming Presidential Election of 2020, Trump supporters and naysayers are trying to convince the nation that Joe Biden is mentally incapable to be President, as if Donald Trump is seen as mentally capable now and for the past three plus years.

Well, two nights ago, Joe Biden came on MSNBC with former Georgia gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams, and both of them put on stellar, superb performances to all of the questions posed by citizens and also by Lawrence O’Donnell.

Joe Biden may not be perfect in every way, but most certainly Donald Trump is pathetic, as proved by his maniacal Twitter feed and public utterances daily.

Biden is perfectly capable of being President, and will have a strong female Vice Presidential running mate, who might be Stacey Abrams, but there are certainly others who might be preferable, including Kamala Harris and Amy Klobuchar.

Donald Trump is trying to destroy Joe Biden, but instead, he is destroying himself daily!

The Alternative Vice Presidential Choices For Joe Biden, And The Likely 47th President In The Future

Former Vice President Joe Biden has formed a committee to consider 12 Vice Presidential potential choices, apparently all women, based on his pledge to select a female running mate.

While the list has not been made public, it would seem clear, subject to a surprise of course, that there would be five women at the top of the list.

They would include

Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts

Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota

Senator Kamala Harris of California

Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan

Former Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams of Georgia

Harris and Abrams are of minority background, with Harris having both Jamaican and Indian ancestry, so therefore multiracial from African and Asian heritage, while Abrams is African American.

So the question arises as to who would be the best choice to be Vice President, and potentially become the 47th President if Joe Biden is unable to finish his term as the 46th President.

The view of this blogger is that two choices should be eliminated immediately, not because they are not good people, but for other reasons.

The first is Elizabeth Warren, due to her age, only six and a half years younger than Joe Biden, making for the oldest Presidential ticket in American history, not a good idea. Also, the likelihood is that the Democrats could, at least temporarily, lose a Senate seat, with a Republican governor in Massachusetts, able to make an appointment, as occurred in 2009 when Scott Brown was appointed to replace Ted Kennedy, upon his death. The Democrats cannot afford to lose a seat in a state with a Republican Governor.

The second is Stacey Abrams, who simply does not have the experience to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. It is true that the Georgia gubernatorial race of 2018 was corrupt, and that Abrams might have been the person who should have been inaugurated.

But that is theory, not reality, and then there is the issue that if Abrams had now been Governor of Georgia, with the CoronaVirus Pandemic raging, should a governor in the midst of the crisis be running for Vice President, and the answer is no!

This also brings Gretchen Whitmer under question, as she is Governor of a state, Michigan, which has had much more severe problems with the CoronaVirus Pandemic than even Georgia. Should she be taking on the campaign for Vice President when Michigan is in crisis?

She is already highly controversial, with the strong reaction in her state by some against her restrictions and quarantine she has imposed, rightfully, but still highly divisive. She served as Minority Leader of the State Senate, after first serving in the Michigan House, so has a similar background as Abrams, with a major difference being that she was successfully elected Governor in 2018.

Both Abrams and Whitmer lack long range national experience, and one wonders if a Governor is the best fit.

And for the Democrats, the Vice Presidential choice for a Presidential campaign has always been a member of the US Senate, except in 1972 and 1984, and both years, the Democrats lost 49 states!

So we come down to two choices—Kamala Harris and Amy Klobuchar.

Harris is 56 and Klobuchar is 60, and Harris’s seat in California is safely Democratic, as is Klobuchar’s seat in Minnesota, with both states having Democratic Governors who would appoint a Democrat to the seat, not true in Massachusetts.

The one advantage of Klobuchar is that she is from the Midwest, a battleground area, while California is insured to be Democratic.

Either one would be a fine choice to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency, and possibly become the 47th President of the United States!

Joe Biden Measured Up To Presidency In CNN Debate, And Inspires With Pledge To Choose Woman VP And Black Woman Supreme Court Justice!

Former Vice President Joe Biden measured up to the Presidency in last night’s CNN debate, while Senator Bernie Sanders performed well, too, but Biden demonstrated that he has no signs of dementia, certainly far more stable than President Donald Trump!

Biden also inspired us with his pledge to choose a woman for Vice President, and an African American woman for the Supreme Court.

Most likely, the VP choice will be Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, and the choice for the Supreme Court will be Senator Kamala Harris of California, although there are other possible choices.

But as things stand at the moment, these choices seem like the best possible selections!

Potential Running Mates For VP for Joe Biden

It now seems highly likely that former Vice President Joe Biden will win the majority of the remaining primaries, although it is certainly still mathematically possible that Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders could reverse his present losing fortunes.

It is time to start thinking about who could complement Joe Biden, and be of assistance in case he starts to have major cognitive problems, which Donald Trump has already demonstrated.

It would seem wise for Joe Biden to select a Vice Presidential running mate who would be a step forward, so therefore, a straight white male is probably not a good idea.

Probably a woman would be best, and hopefully someone far more qualified than Geraldine Ferraro in 1984 or Sarah Palin in 2008.

Good possibilities include Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar; California Senator Kamala Harris; or Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Former San Antonio Mayor and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro would be a strong contender, and would draw more Latinos to vote in Texas, Arizona, North Carolina and Florida.

Former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg has a bright future, and Biden is very impressed with him, and has compared him to his dead son, Beau Biden. The fact that Pete is gay and has a husband would not have much effect, except among extremist religious groups, such as right wing evangelical Christians, conservative Catholics, and Orthodox Jews, but none of those groups are likely to vote Democratic anyway.

There are others that have been talked about, but right now, this author and blogger would suggest one of the above group.

Stunning Action Of Pete Buttigieg, But He Saw Handwriting On The Wall!

This author and blogger was truly stunned by the sudden decision of Pete Buttigieg, after a fourth place showing in South Carolina’s Presidential Primary on Saturday, to announce his withdrawal from the Presidential race.

After recovering from the shock, however, it makes total sense, as it is clear after the massive victory of Joe Biden, that the only legitimate alternatives left are Biden, Bernie Sanders, and Michael Bloomberg.

And even Bloomberg, if he does not perform well on Super Tuesday, should withdraw, and give his financial support to Biden, to stop Bernie Sanders.

One would think that Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar will withdraw after Tuesday, but hoping they win their home states’ primaries in Massachusetts and Minnesota, and deny support to Bernie. But even if they do win, they have no realistic chance of being nominated, and as moderates, should join Pete Buttigieg in support of Joe Biden as the best hope for the party.

Having stated the above, it is still disturbing that the final three choices are all to be octogenarians in the next Presidential term, so the importance of who is Vice President under any of the three is extremely crucial.

And also, the Zero Election Year Syndrome, which led to seven Presidential deaths, one President shot, and one President seriously threatened on September 11, will rear its ugly head again in 2020. With three candidates, all being far older than Ronald Reagan or Donald Trump, this is a worrisome matter. So we must have the best possible VP choice, because the odds grow that such person might very well end up in the Oval Office at some point!
