Donald Trump Impeachment

Donald Trump Presidency Far Worse Than Richard Nixon Presidency, Which Had Positive Developments

The Presidency of Richard Nixon has long been understood to have been the most dangerous time of Presidential abuse in American history, but now with Donald Trump out of office, it is clear that the 45th President was much more abusive, and much more negative, than the 37th President a half century ago!

Nixon was involved in many illegal actions, culminating in the Watergate Scandal, but more more than just that scandal, and he was facing impeachment and removal from office had he not resigned.

But Nixon also made some major advancements in domestic policy making, signing into law Democratic initiatives that he could have vetoed, and would not have become law, including;

The Environmental Protection Agency
The Consumer Product Safety Commission
Occupational Safety and Health Administration
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

He also supported Affirmative Action, and appointed Associate Justice Harry Blackmun to the Supreme Court, and also, in foreign policy, opened up to mainland China, and accomplished the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty with the Soviet Union.

Even though Nixon’s negatives, causing more indictments and convictions than any President, were major in other actions, he ranks in the mid to low 20s in ranking among Presidential scholars for his positive initiatives.

Donald Trump ranks near the bottom of listings of Presidents, and was ever more lawless, with many revelations yet to come, and he also set out to destroy much of the Nixon domestic accomplishments. And the fact that he was impeached twice, and lost the popular vote massively twice, adds to his negatives!

So Donald Trump elevates Richard Nixon, and even Presidents seen as primarily disasters, including George W. Bush!

Mike Pence: A Weak Sycophant To Donald Trump, With No Political Future, And A Disgraceful Reputation!

Former Vice President Mike Pence was directly threatened with being lynched on January 6, at the time of the US Capitol Insurrection, and President Donald Trump did not have any contact with him for the next five days.

Pence came very close to being lynched on a noose set up by the insurrectionists, and yet, Pence can only say five months later that he and Trump disagree, and might never come to any agreement about the events of that day.

This shows how weak kneed and sycophantic Pence is to Trump, rather than being outraged and demanding Trump apologize, and be held accountable, as seventeen Republicans made clear in the second impeachment trial, and 42 Republicans made clear in supporting the establishment of a January 6 Commission.

Mike Pence has no political future, and a disgraceful reputation, but is emasculated by Donald Trump, an outrage for which Pence needs to be condemned by all decent people!

Six Republican Senators Supported Creation Of Bipartisan January 6 Commission

Six Republican Senators ended up supporting creation of the bipartisan January 6 Commission, to do a thorough investigation of the US Capitol Insurrection, with the proposal failing 54-35 in the Senate last Friday.

Five of the six Republican Senators also supported conviction of Donald Trump on impeachment charges, including

Mitt Romney of Utah
Lisa Murkowski of Alaska
Susan Collins of Maine
Ben Sasse of Nebraska
Bill Cassidy of Louisiana

Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania was absent for the vote, but said he would have joined the others in support, as he did on the conviction of Trump.

Also, Rob Portman of Ohio, who did not support conviction of Trump on impeachment charges, joined the five above Senators in voting for the commission, and should be commended.

Richard Burr of North Carolina, who supported conviction of Trump, failed to vote on the legislation, but indicated he would not have supported such a commission.

The 35 House Republicans Who Supported Creation Of A January 6 Insurrection Commission, But Will Senate Republicans Follow?

The number of House Republicans who supported the impeachment of Donald Trump in January, after the US Capitol Insurrection of January 6, was ten members.

The number of House Republicans who voted last week to support the creation of a January 6 Insurrection Commission is 35 members, which is one sixth of the Republican House membership, with 175 Republicans voting against the bill.

They come from 23 states, including 4 from New York; and 2 each from Florida, Texas, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Washington, Nebraska, Utah, and Arkansas.

The other states are California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Oregon, Indiana, South Carolina, West Virginia, Iowa, Wyoming, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Idaho.

The big question is whether 10 Republican Senators would go along with the creation of the January 6 Commission, and one would think the 7 Senators who voted to convict Trump in February 2021 (Mitt Romney, Ben Sasse, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Pat Toomey, Richard Burr, and Bill Cassidy) would do so, but already it seems unlikely that will happen!

It is believed that up to 15 Republican Senators “might’ support the creation of the Commission, but no certainty, when it should be supported by all who want the unvarnished truth!

In any case, there will be a House Commission formed by Nancy Pelosi, and the Republicans will nnly harm their own reputations, and their political futures, by working to deny a full investigation, with their full participation.

Covering up or denying reality will not play well, and will only doom the Republican Party future!

A Salute To The Ten House Members and 7 Senators Who Supported Impeachment And Conviction Of Donald Trump!

It takes courage and principle for a political figure to speak up for truth and transparency.

It is much easier to go “with the crowd”, to stay silent and conform, but a total of 17 Republicans, 10 in the House of Representatives, and 7 in the Unites States Senate, stand out for their convictions and commitment to the truth.

They deserve credit, as they have been pilloried for disloyalty to Donald Trump, and have been censured by their state Republican party organizations.

In the long run of history, they will be remembered, as members of Congress who opposed the majority, and suffered mightily at the time, but look strong and determined in retrospect.

When these 17 Republicans leave Congress and when their earthly journey comes to a end, their stand on Donald Trump’s impeachment will be part of their eventual obituary.

And if not to have principles and conscience, what is the whole point of public service?

Here is the list of reputable Republicans in Congress:

US House of Representatives

Liz Cheney of Wyoming
Tom Rice of South Carolina
Dan Newhouse of Washington
Adam Kinzinger of Illinois
Anthony Gonzalez of Ohio
Fred Upton of Michigan
Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington
Peter Meijer of Michigan
John Katko of New York
David Valadao of California

The US Senate

Richard Burr of North Carolina
Bill Cassidy of Louisiana
Susan Collins of Maine
Lisa Murkowski of Alaska
Mitt Romney of Utah
Ben Sasse of Nebraska
Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania

Only Three Republican House Members Are Consistent On Donald Trump And Marjorie Taylor Greene!

An amazing reality, that only THREE House Republicans are consistent in their principles.

They voted for the impeachment of Donald Trump, and for the stripping of committee membership for QAnon follower and advocate of violence and lies, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.

The three “heroes” were;

Adam Kinzinger of Illinois
Fred Upton of Michigan
John Katko of New York

All three will likely have major challenges for nomination to their seats in 2022, sadly, and it shows how corrupt and unprincipled the Republican Party has become.

It will be interesting to see how many Republican Senators vote to convict Donald Trump in his second upcoming impeachment trial, with only five voting to impeach him–Mitt Romney of Utah, Ben Sasse of Nebraska, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania.

Donald Trump Accomplishes Unique Record: Two Impeachments And Two Massive Popular Vote Losses!

Donald Trump has done the impossible, “accomplishments’ that will never, in the long run of history, ever occur to any future President!

Donald Trump has been impeached twice in one year, and there is a good chance that he will be convicted out of office and lose the right to run again for public office, and lose a Presidential pension and Secret Service protection for life.

Mitch McConnell seems to be leaning toward conviction of Trump personally, and is known to blame Trump for the loss of the Republican majority in the Senate.

That makes it likely that 17-20 other Republican Senators, with staffs furious over the Capitol Insurrection that endangered their lives a week ago, will vote to convict Trump.

Also, Trump has the “distinction” of being the only President to lose the popular vote of the nation twice, and by bigger margins than any other President, with a negative of 2.85 million votes in 2016, and 7 million votes in 2020.

And his public opinion rating in polls never made it to a majority of 50 percent or higher.

Trump is in the bottom position in any scholarly poll of experts, and will not rise from that basement position, and hopefully, no future President will be as horrific and disgraceful as Donald Trump!

Domestic Terrorism At Its Peak As Inauguration Of Joe Biden Occurs Eight Days From Today

America is living through a literal nightmare, after the right wing Trumpist Fascist attack on the US Capitol Building on January 6!

Nearly a generation after the September 11, 2001 Attacks by Al Qaeda, we now have domestic terrorism at its peak as the inauguration of Joe Biden occurs eight days from today.

There are reported threats not just on Washington, DC, but also on all fifty state capitals in the next week, with plans revealed for a major threat on this coming weekend, and increasing as January 20 comes upon us!

And we have a unhinged, mentally deranged President now facing a second impeachment, which is justified, but will incite ever more reaction by lunatic seditionists and traitors.

That is why this author and blogger advocates that the inaugural ceremonies be held inside a fortified US Capitol building, not outside, as is customary!

In 1985, Ronald Reagan, then the oldest President at an inauguration, now to be surpassed by Joe Biden, had his second inauguration inside the US Capitol due to the coldest Inauguration Day in American history, with the temperature being 7 degrees Fahrenheit.

There are reports that a multitude of right wing, white supremacist, and neo Nazi groups are targeting not just the inauguration but other locations, and already, the Washington Monument has been shut down, and a high unscalable fence has been built around the US Capitol site, and also the Supreme Court across the street.

Washington DC is becoming a place where security and protection is forever changing due to a multitude of plots by extremists even before this disastrous January 6, 2021 event, and this is a sad, depressing time for American democracy!

But our constitutional system of government is worth fighting for, to protect the republic that has survived Civil War, the Great Depression, and two World Wars!

Joe Biden Further Ahead In Polls For Early June Than Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, And John Kerry Were In Last Four Election Cycles

We have all learned from history that public opinion polls are not always accurate, but it is impressive, at least for now, that Joe Biden is ahead of Donald Trump in all public opinion polls in early June, further ahead of Donald Trump than Hillary Clinton in 2016, Barack Obama in 2012 and 2008, and John Kerry in 2004 against their opponents.

It is clearly not a reason for those who support Joe Biden to become cocky, and even lazy about campaigning for him, and for encouraging others to vote in November.

But considering the first five months of 2020, with the impeachment trial; the CoronaVirust Pandemic; the collapse of the economy to depression levels; and the Trump decision to fire tear gas, pepper spray, and have two helicopters threaten peaceful demonstrators in Washington, DC, who were protesting the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, one has to believe that the polls likely are accurate against Donald Trump.

79 Days From End Of Impeachment Trial To 50,000 Dead Americans In CoronaVirus Pandemic!

On Wednesday, February 5, 2020, the US Senate voted to find President Donald Trump “not guilty” on two impeachment charges.

The next day, Thursday, February 6, 2020, the first American died from the CoronaVirus, a 57 year old woman in California.

78 Days have passed from that first death on February 6, and today, 50,000 Americans have died from the pandemic, and in about two days, the death toll will pass the 54,000 killed in Korea over three years in the early 1950s, and in four days, the death toll will be 58,000, passing the number of Americans killed in Vietnam in the 1960s and 1970s!

All of the wars in American history, minus the three big ones (Civil War, World War II, World War I) add up to 130,832, a total likely to be passed, and World War I itself is 116,000. And certainly within possibility is the combination of these two listed numbers, for a total of 246,832 dead!

Hopefully, the World War II total of 405,000 will not be reached, or the Civil War total for both sides of 750,000!

But as stated earlier in my blog entry of April 5, 19 days ago, we could eventually surpass all wars combined, a grand total of 1,404,092. god forbid!

While we might not have avoided this crisis simply by Donald Trump being convicted and removed from office the day before the first death, it is possible to believe that the new President, Mike Pence, would have taken the advice of scientists, after taking office, and would have reacted in a very different and saner fashion than Donald Trump has done in the past 78 days!

Whatever Mike Pence has as shortcomings, it seems reasonable to think the present disaster would have been treated differently, as Pence has acted in a responsible manner since February 26, when he was appointed to head the task force to deal with the pandemic.

Pence can be criticized for being too sycophantic, biting his lip, and keeping a stiff face in public, but seriously working on the burden he was given in a manner that, under the circumstances, was likely the most that could be expected.

This blogger and author wishes to believe that history would have been different had Pence been President, and that he would have been much more proactive.

That reality, if it had occurred, would likely have been an asset in the election campaign, having come in with just nine months to the election and eleven and a half months to the inauguration, and the Republican Party might have been able to count on a possible Pence victory.

But, instead, except for Mitt Romney, the Republicans in the US Senate totally blew their credibility, and now will suffer defeats in Congress of historical proportions, and a massive defeat of Donald Trump on November 3.

To recover from this double disaster, the second Great Depression we are now in, and the greatest health crisis ever in American history, and reelect Trump, is simply impossible, if one goes by historical trends over nearly 250 years.

For the American people to commit, effectively, suicide and reward the person and party that brought about this tragedy, is simply unrealistic to imagine occurring.

If it does, then the nation will, rapidly, decline as a world leader and major power, a trend already provoked by the absolutely insane policies of Donald Trump!
