Economic Policy

The Republican Party’s Effect Since 2001: Promotion Of Ignorance, Poverty, Shorter Life Span!

Since the inauguration of President George W. Bush in January, 2001, the Republican Party has been going down the path of promoting hatred of government, a tone of mean spiritedness and lack of compassion, and extreme advocacy of the interests of the rich and powerful at the expense of the rest of American society!

Whether it is the national government, state governments, or local governments, the Republican Party philosophy has been in unison with the promotion of ignorance, by doing everything within their capability to undermine educational opportunity, the major way for an individual to advance in social mobility!

The Republican Party has also managed to destroy the American economy through lack of regulation of corporations and Wall Street, and through manipulation and incompetence, they have created the worst economic conditions since the 1930s. And any attempt by President Barack Obama and his Democratic Party to reverse course has been met by total obstructionism and refusal to deal with the jobs crisis, therefore creating a higher level of poverty in America than we have seen in many decades.

And now, with the refusal to recognize the humanity of promoting health care for ALL Americans, and instead doing everything to DENY health care, and to advocate the destruction of Medicare as we know it, the Republican Party is making clear its lack of concern for longevity of life of anyone who is poor or elderly.

How any decent human being could be a loyal Republican, with the total lack of humanity and compassion that the present party membership in politics has, is beyond comprehension!

NBC Poll And Obama Numbers: Potential Trouble For The Future

The latest NBC poll shows widely varying public opinion views of President Barack Obama.

57 percent like his foreign policy, a tremendous boost after the successful elimination of Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan.

52 percent overall like the job performance of Obama, which is higher than it has been since early in his term.

But only 37 percent are happy with his economic policies, and that is a danger sign for the President. And certainly, the GOP is not going to do anything to help change the economic picture, as that is the best issue to use against the President.

With 18 months to the election, one has to think back to the first President Bush, who had 91 percent in the polls after the Gulf War, but collapsed to 37 percent in the actual voting percentage a year and a half later in 1992.

So Obama cannot bask in the glory about Osama Bin Laden’s death, as the truth still is what Bill Clinton used as his campaign slogan in 1992 against Bush–“It’s the economy, stupid!”

Economic Policies Under Review As Advisers Leave Obama Administration!

It seems likely that major economic policy changes are coming soon, partially as a result of the upcoming midterm elections, and partially over the inability so far for the Obama Administration to deal with the constant unemployment numbers, now 9.6 percent, and possibly going up to over 10 percent! 🙁

Yesterday, economic experts said the Great Recession is over, and that it ended in June 2009, after 18 months, starting in December 2007! This is the longest recession since World War II, with the 1973-75 and 1982-83 recessions officially lasting 16 months!

But it is very hard to believe that the recession is over, with so little job growth and the horrible housing market, so it is time to change people and policy!

Nevada, Michigan and California have between 12-14 percent unemployment, and Florida is close to 12 percent, and this is what is killing the Obama popularity in the public opinion polls!

So Larry Summers is leaving, joining earlier departures of Peter Orszag and Christina Romer. This means only Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner remains from the original economic team, and one would not be surprised if he left sooner, rather than later!

It is clear that unless the economy starts to turn around in 2011, no matter whether the Democrats retain or lose Congressional control, Barack Obama will be in deep trouble for re-election in 2012! The forecast is not promising! 🙁
