Gallup Poll

Tax Cuts For The Wealthy NOT Favored, According To Gallup Poll! So Why Are Republicans Favored To Gain Control In Midterm Elections?

It is odd that the Gallup polls indicate a likely advantage in the midterm elections toward the Republican Party, at the same time that their polls demonstrate that Americans do NOT want the Bush tax cuts, which include big cuts for the wealthy, to continue beyond their expiration date in December 2010!

44 percent agree with President Barack Obama and the Democrats that the top two percent of the population, who make more than $250,000 should pay more taxes, that they do not pay enough, and that major social programs, including Social Security, need the extra tax collection from the wealthy to make them function!

Only 37 percent agree with the GOP view on taxes, which would raise the deficit by another $700 billion at a time when the Republican Party calls for cutting spending dramatically in the midst of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930s!

So the GOP is saying give more money back to the rich, even though that will not promote financial stability, will cause a great increase in the national debt which the GOP condemns, and will further cause a stratification of the social classes in America, already more stratified than Great Britain! 🙁

The issue hard to understand in the Gallup polls is how could more Americans want to see taxes increased on the wealthy, and yet seem to be ready to elect Republicans to control of Congress, or at least the House of Representatives! 🙁

It seems to defy common sense that the American people could support the Obama and Democratic view on taxes, and yet wish to elect Republicans! It indicates lack of enthusiasm on the part of Democrats, and very possibly, total ignorance of what political parties are all about by many Americans! 🙁

It would indeed be a sad state of affairs if the American people, at least by a plurality, want Democratic ideas and end up with a GOP majority in Congress through ignorance and a lack of participation in the electoral process! 🙁

It is a strong indication of the dire need to educate the American people on the facts and the realities of political debates and issues, instead of utilizing fear and prejudice and myths to manipulate the voters! 🙁

Time To Unleash Obama’s “Secret Weapon” For The Midterm Elections: Vice President Joe Biden!

With eight weeks to go to the midterm Congressional elections, and with the Gallup polls showing volatility and flux, it is time for President Obama to unleash his “secret weapon”, Vice President Joe Biden!

Obama is actively being more aggressive, a la Harry Truman, but Joe Biden is naturally a great campaigner, who knows how to inspire audiences and how to go on the attack against the opposition!

This is not a time, again, to act “nice”, as the opposition Republicans have no limits in tactics or speech regarding their purpose to destroy the Obama Administration!

So, Mr. President, it is time to “unleash” Joe Biden, send him out on the road, being as good if not better than Harry Truman, and not worrying about Republican and conservative talk show host criticism!

One good point, among many others, about Joe Biden is that he easily deflects irresponsible criticism, and is willing to anger and infuriate the opposition and still can sleep at night! 🙂

Joe Biden is one of the greatest assets Barack Obama has, and the President MUST utilize him to the fullest, as Joe is totally loyal to his President and will do whatever he is asked to do!

So hopefully, Joe Biden will be a true asset in this midterm Congressional election campaign! 🙂

The Volatile Nature Of Public Opinion Polls Regarding The Midterm Congressional Elections!

The Republicans were rejoicing last week, when the Gallup poll indicated the largest lead for the GOP among likely voters in the past 60 years, a margin of ten points over the Democrats!

But just one week later, the shocking reality is that now there is a literal tie between Democrats and Republicans, switching from 51-41 GOP last week to a 46-46 tie today!

This shows the lack of validity of public opinion polls, particularly in a highly volatile situation as we face now, where there is tremendous amounts of flux among the electorate!

But what else does it seem to show? It demonstrates what the author has made clear in earlier entries! And that is that Barack Obama by being assertive, combative, aggressive, and on the offensive, can indeed have an effect on public opinion!

Barack Obama has been vilified wrongfully by the GOP opposition for too long, and has been too nice, too much of a gentleman, to attack in an aggressive way! But now this week he has been acting like “Give Them Hell Harry!” Truman, who produced what was seen as a miracle when he won reelection in 1948!

Obama has a lot to be proud of, and he needs to make that case to the American people over the next 55 days, and fight for his agenda, and declare “war” on the Republican Party which wishes him ill! He needs to make it clear that the GOP is not concerned about the middle class or the poor, but only the wealthy two percent of taxpayers and the corporations!

It is time for this nation to be taken back for US, the American people, who are entitled to leadership that cares about the average American, and Barack Obama and the Democrats, while not having a perfect record, have done much in the 111th Congress to deserve to keep control of the 112th Congress in 2011-2012!

The Latest Gallup Poll: An Electoral Armageddon For The Democrats? :(

The Gallup poll results reported today are an alarm bell for Democrats across the nation, particularly in the House of Representatives!

Asking voters whether they will favor a generic Republican or a generic Democrat, the result today is a ten point lead, 51 to 41 percent, the greatest margin in the history of Gallup polling! It indicates a possible massive swing of support to the GOP in November, with some observers predicting a gain of as many as 60 seats in the House of Representatives, with only 39 needed for GOP control! 🙁

There are still nine weeks to turn this situation around, but it seen as an electoral “Armageddon” for Democrats, with the major problem being the lack of enthusiasm by liberals and Democrats to go out to the polls this fall, while the level of interest in voting is very high for Republicans!

Also, Independents seem to be very unhappy with the situation that exists, and therefore, seem to favor voting for the Republicans as a protest vote to demonstrate their dissatisfaction!

The question that arises is why so many people seem to have no problem that the Republican party has no agenda, except to repeal the past two years! The party offers no new ideas, and yet it seems as if many Americans have amnesia as to what caused the nation to be in such a economic free fall these past three years! 🙁

It is almost as if it is just a question of dissatisfaction, and a resultant “throw the rascals out!” reaction, without careful thought as to why one would wish to return to failed policies in place of giving a real trial to the Obama agenda! 🙁

So the future seems grim, but Democrats MUST mount a national campaign, and fight with vigor to get the message out to the American people!

While there can be a sense of defeatism at this point, the effort MUST be made to convince Independents, liberals and progressives, and registered Democrats to get out there and work for the party and vote, as despite gloomy predictions, polls have been wrong in the past, and it is not yet a “fait accompli”!

Or as the saying goes, “It ain’t over till it’s over!”

Gallup Survey On “Red” And “Blue” States: Coastlines Vs Interior

A new Gallup survey demonstrates the chasm that exists in this country in 2010!

The red (Republican) states are in the South, Midwest and some of the West–areas with far less diversity, much more conservative, much lower education levels, much poorer in social services, and much more religious!

The most red states are Wyoming, Mississippi, Utah, and South Dakota! 22 states are red, including all states west of the Mississippi River, except Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada in the Mountain West, and the Pacific Coast states of California, Oregon, and Washington! But Montana and North Dakota could potentially turn blue! All Southern states are red, except for Virginia, Florida and North Carolina, with the latter two on the level of potential turn to red! This also applies to Ohio and Indiana, blue but potential to turn red! Additionally, the border states of West Virginia, Kentucky and Missouri are red, but with Missouri on the level of potential turn to blue!

28 states are blue (Democratic), all the Atlantic Coast states down through Virginia, plus North Carolina and Florida which could turn red; the Midwest states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Iowa, plus Ohio and Indiana which could turn red; plus the six states west of the Mississippi mentioned earlier, and Hawaii!

Alaska, by the way, is red, but overall one could say that 19 states are definitely red with three others potentially turning blue; 24 states are definitely blue, with four others potentially turning red!

So only seven states are potential turnovers–Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina and Florida from blue to red, and Missouri, Montana and North Dakota from red to blue!

It is clear that the population centers and the major urban states are heavily blue, while the rural heartland is heavily red! This is a cultural, as well as sectional, struggle going on as to the future of the country, and the split in this nation seems wider than at any time since the Civil War!

This is worrisome for a nation becoming less Caucasian as the years go by! How will the country react to the growing diversity of the nation, and the emerging political power of minorities over time, particularly the Latino and Hispanic population, which is already larger than the African American portion of the population?

One can conclude that in American society and politics, there never is now, and never will be in the future, a dull moment! 🙂

New Gallup Poll On Party Affiliation Good News For Democrats Despite Slippage

A new Gallup poll indicates that the Democrats have lost some of their edge in party affiliation across the country, but still show great advantage on a lesser level.

In 2008, the Democrats had a party affiliation edge of 18 points, while now it is down to ten points. 39 states have shown shrinkage in Democratic support, but yet 33 states show a Democratic edge of at least five points, as compared to just 5 states showing a GOP edge. 12 states show a swing state (less than five point edge) status.

23 states were strongly Democratic (more than 10 points) and ten states were Democratic leaning (five to ten point edge). Four states were strongly Republicans (Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Alaska), and one state was leaning Republican (Alabama).

Eight states showed substantial loss of Democratic support, including Ohio (8); Hawaii, Louisiana and Montana (7); and Iowa, Maine, Vermont, and Wisconsin (6). The drop in Democratic support in Ohio and Wisconsin, the largest of these eight states, is most worrisome.

Overall, the Democrats are still in good shape, but while they still have the clear edge for the Presidential election of 2012, there are danger signs with the withering economy that could complicate the campaign of Barack Obama for a second term.
