Multiracial America

Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday: Republicans Backtracking On Civil Rights!

Today is the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, and yet, the Republican Party is doing everything imaginable to backtrack on Civil Rights!

The Supreme Court, with Republican appointments controlling six of the nine seats, is working very hard to negate the Voting Rights Act, Affirmative Action, and so much more, and among those most promoting backtracking is African American Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, who is a total disgrace on the issue of civil rights, which actually advanced his career!

Republican Governors, led by Ron DeSantis of Florida, Greg Abbott of Texas, and other governors, mostly in the South, are mandating that teachers cannot discuss race and ethnicity, and the truth of American history, because some white children might feel “bad”, as if history should be totally sanitized!

This includes literature as well being censored, an absolute outrage, with the goal of keeping young people ignorant, and complying with the demands of many prejudiced white parents, who do not want their children exposed to truth and facts!

It also includes the goal of making it harder for poor people and those of color to be able to vote, a backtracking on the Voting Rights Act of 1965!

So we have Republicans mouthing quotes of Martin Luther King, Jr, but working assiduously to promote a white supremacy version of history and literature, in a nation becoming less white by the decade!

This is a human tragedy of massive proportions, and must be resisted by decent and educated people who do not want a sanitizing of our history and literature, and instead, a full accounting for past shortcomings, in order to promote a better future in a multiracial society!

Suburbia In 2020 Is Not Similar To Past Suburbia That Donald Trump Portrays!

Donald Trump talks about “Suburbia” as if is the 1950s and 1960s, when the suburbs outside of cities were developed, and were mostly white, often by restrictions by builders and by communities themselves.

No longer is “Suburbia” the same, as now it is no longer white exclusive, and instead is multi racial and multi religious, a true example of America, while cities tends to be more the very rich and the very poor.

So when Donald Trump talks about saving white suburban women from “dangerous” and “lawless” minorities that are plotting to destroy their neighborhoods, he is inciting fear and hysteria!

And white Suburbia, and particularly white women who are educated, find Donald Trump obnoxious, so the once likely Republican “Suburbia” is now trending toward Democrats, as they did in the midterm Congressional Elections of 2018.

Trump is living in the mythical past, while he is only interested in stoking fear and hysteria, and in November, he will be repudiated by the voters as a true monster, who should face prosecution upon leaving office for massive crimes against his own people!

65 Years Since Supreme Court Decision In Brown V. Board Of Education

A week ago, the nation commemorated the 65th anniversary of the most significant and far reaching Supreme Court decision of the 20th century, Brown V. Board of Education, decided in 1954 by an unanimous 9-0 decision, spurred on by the second greatest Chief Justice in American history, Earl Warren.

This decision, an extremely rare unanimous case, has had a dramatic effect on America, regarding race relations and equal opportunity, no debate about that.

But at the same time, there is still much racism and prejudice, spurred on by Donald Trump, after the inspiring election before him of Barack Obama, as the ugly side of human relations came to the forefront.

And although there has been progress as compared to before 1954, there still is too much inequity in schools and funding, particularly in “Red” states in the South and Midwest.

But we also see more social intermingling of the different racial groups, as generations of children have friends of people of different backgrounds, and more mixed race children are being born, since skin color has become for many young people not an issue as much as it was their grandparents and even parents.

There is still a lot of work and effort required to promote a truly multiracial society in a nation which will be majority minority in 2040 and beyond.
