The Failure Of Two Romneys Seeking The Presidency

So now two Romneys, father and son, have failed in their goal to become President of the United States.

George Romney, Mitt Romney’s father, was a competitor for the GOP nomination in 1968, but self destructed, when after a trip to Vietnam, he said he felt he had been “brainwashed”. At the same time, he had been very transparent about his finances and tax returns, and had been openly willing to be specific on what he believed. He was an honest, competent man, who had been Governor of Michigan for six years, was proud to be a moderate, and later served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Richard Nixon.

Mitt Romney, on the other hand, tried for the GOP nomination for President in 2008, and then ran and won the nomination this year. But Mitt only had one term as Governor of Massachusetts, and his record in office was far from successful, while his dad had accomplished a great deal in Michigan.

Additionally, Mitt came across as a man of no principles, no guts, no beliefs, who refused to be transparent about his tax returns or anything else. He stayed away from the news media, which George catered to, and allowed himself to become a captive of the right wing of his party, while George condemned and fought against the right wing and Barry Goldwater in 1964.

And Mitt became an incessant liar, which his dad would have been shocked by!

George Romney was an admirable figure in many ways, while Mitt Romney was far from admirable, and not many political observers will miss him, and it seems certain in the long run of history, George will be seen as far better than his son Mitt!

Another example of a son not being the match of his dad, sadly!

The Secretive, Non-Transparent Candidate, Mitt Romney: Are We Going To Let Him Get Away With It?

Mitt Romney is the most secretive Presidential nominee in history, and yet, at this point, two weeks out, he is basically tied with Barack Obama in many public opinion polls. It seems as if the American people are prepared to, possibly, elect a candidate who is totally non-transparent about his life and viewpoints.

Romney refuses to talk about his finances and his wealth, with no more than two tax returns revealed. He refuses to talk about his investments in Swiss banks and in the Cayman Islands.

Romney refuses to talk about his religion, and his role as a Bishop in the Mormon Church, a position of leadership.

Romney refuses to talk about his Bain business career in detail, and the harm he did to many companies, and workers, and his dealings with China.

Romney refuses to talk about his plans for spending, and changes in the tax system, which would affect all Americans, if he were elected.

Romney has refused to reveal his funding sources for his campaign, and what pledges he has made to wealthy people who have supported him.

Romney has been refusing to be forthright on ANYTHING, and he has been arrogant in his refusal to be open to the news media in any form.

Romney has been shown to be a massive liar, and to act as if he is entitled to be President, simply because he lusts for the job.

But he sets a terrible standard for lack of transparency, and if he wins, the Presidency will be more secretive than it ever has been since Richard Nixon.

And remember, his own wife has been quoted as concerned how having the stresses of the Presidency might affect her husband’s mental health.

This man is narcissistic to the extreme, has delusions of grandeur, has no problem lying and misleading, cannot look at anyone directly in the eyes, and is clearly lacking in being genuine and trustworthy.

Just because he might be intelligent, and a good husband and father, does not qualify him, based on the above evidence, to be the President of the United States!

Hopefully, the American people will not make the mistake of electing an unknown quantity who could be dangerous in a secretive environment, such as the White House, with people ready to give in to any and all whims by a deluded President, who has no concern about public opinion! If so, he could be far worse in his negative qualities than Richard Nixon!

Mitt Romney And The Salt Lake City Winter Olympics 2002: Another Scandal And Boondoggle!

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican Presidential nominee, has boasted about how he saved the Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games of 2002.

What he has not told us is that those Olympics received $2.7 billion in federal funds, equivalent of a bailout, with most of it going to improve the public services of Salt Lake City, as Romney was unable to gain much private investment. So the taxpayers of the nation added to the national debt to present the Olympics, and Romney took credit for its “success”, without revealing that it was on taxpayer money.

But now Romney has the gall to say that taxpayer money was used to bail out General Motors and Chrysler, even though it saved the auto industry in the Midwest, and has been paid back handsomely by those auto companies!

Additionally, Romney had said that the records of the Salt Lake City Olympics would be fully available for journalists and others, and that he believed in “transparency”, but then he proceeded to make it impossible for the records to be accessed, and as it turns out, the records of Romney’s activities have strangely disappeared!

What is clear is that Mitt Romney is not only a liar and a deceiver, but he is also corrupt, and has spent his life covering his tracks, including his refusal to reveal his tax records, because it is clear that they would show manipulation and chicanery in his financial dealings!

This is a man who is secretive, distant, insincere, arrogant, and thinking he is “entitled” to the Presidency being handed to him on a silver platter!

We need to make sure that does not happen this November 6, exactly one hundred days from today! Barack Obama supporters must do whatever they can to guarantee that our 44th President has another term in the White House, which he richly deserves!

The Urgency Of Mitt Romney To Be Transparent About His Life

When a person decides to run for President, he opens himself up to the American people, and we have a right to know as much as we can about his background , his history, his beliefs, and his agenda.

Of course, no one is tied down to what he says his agenda is, as circumstances and events will shape a lot of what occurs during his administration, if he is elected President.

But being honest, frank, transparent, is always the better way, as we value someone who comes across as not secretive, not deceptive, not manipulative.

Sadly, Mitt Romney, the presumptive GOP nominee for President, particularly after victories in New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, now needs to prove that he is not secretive, deceptive and manipulative, the impressions he has left in the battle for the nomination over the past year.

Therefore, if he wants us to take him seriously, and decide if he deserves to be President, he must come forward with information in precise terms about the following:

Romney needs to tell us about his Mormon faith, how he views it, what he thinks of its shortcomings and the criticisms made of it, as many wonder about a religion often considered a cult. We have a right to know how much his faith will govern his decision making and his world view.

Romney needs to reveal his investments, if any, based on reports, that he has in the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, Monaco, or Swiss banks, and why he chose to invest there, rather than in US banking institutions.

Romney needs to explain his family history, and the truth about his father, instead of claiming how poor his dad, George Romney, was, and how Mitt pulled himself up all on his own without any help from family, a story that is seen as a myth. He needs to stop denying his heritage and his wealth and advantages inherited from being the son of the chairman of American Motors and the Governor of Michigan in the 1960s.

Romney also needs to tell us what his agenda is on foreign policy, how he plans to relate to the outside world. And he needs to tell us what kind of Supreme Court appointments he would wish to make, and how he sees the law and the Constitution, in specific details. And he needs to stop evasion as a tactic, as he will be confronted with it during the campaign by media investigation, and certainly by President Obama in the three televised debates. We have a right to know if he wished to govern as a moderate or a conservative.

Since he insisted that Obama should be forthcoming on his plans after the election, he must be willing to do the same, and be totally transparent in all regards, something he has not done so far.

If he is not transparent, then he will lose the election. If he is transparent, and we find the information unacceptable, then he will lose. But better to lose on transparency than the lack of it. To have an image of being honest, frank, and transparent, is always preferred, and a good character lesson for the nation at large!
