It has been a half century since the exposure by the New York Times of the Pentagon Papers, that revealed the secrets of how America became engaged in the never ending Vietnam War.

It infuriated President Richard Nixon, and led to circumstances that brought about the Watergate Scandal, and the move to impeach Nixon, leading to his resignation on August 9, 1974.

But now, revelations show Donald Trump had engaged in even worse violations of the law than Nixon did, and this makes it clear how alarming it is that Trump is still trying to promote a coup, as on January 6 at the US Capitol, so that he can return to power.

And it is ever more alarming that most Republicans are willing to bend to Trump’s will, and that the Republican Party of 2021 is far more corrupt and dangerous than it was in 1971!

Mike Pence: A Weak Sycophant To Donald Trump, With No Political Future, And A Disgraceful Reputation!

Former Vice President Mike Pence was directly threatened with being lynched on January 6, at the time of the US Capitol Insurrection, and President Donald Trump did not have any contact with him for the next five days.

Pence came very close to being lynched on a noose set up by the insurrectionists, and yet, Pence can only say five months later that he and Trump disagree, and might never come to any agreement about the events of that day.

This shows how weak kneed and sycophantic Pence is to Trump, rather than being outraged and demanding Trump apologize, and be held accountable, as seventeen Republicans made clear in the second impeachment trial, and 42 Republicans made clear in supporting the establishment of a January 6 Commission.

Mike Pence has no political future, and a disgraceful reputation, but is emasculated by Donald Trump, an outrage for which Pence needs to be condemned by all decent people!

The horrors of a potential coup to remove President Joe Biden is not just a dream of right wing extremists, but to them, it is reality as part of their conspiracy theories.

The Secret Service is tasked with real threats to both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, as there are people around Donald Trump, such as Sidney Powell, retired General Mike Flynn, and right wing talk show hosts who are promoting the idea that by sometime in the summer, with all of the illegal recounting of election results, totally unauthorized, Donald Trump will return to power.

Even Donald Trump is saying such now, an example of total delusion, but it is not to be laughed at, as too many Republicans nationally are hooked to the idea that Joe Biden is an illegitimate President.

We are not being told about threats to Biden and Harris, but clearly, this is a time of great concern and stress, and the need for the FBI and the Secret Service and the Justice Department to move forward to prevent such a coup, and another attack on the US Capitol!

Six Republican Senators Supported Creation Of Bipartisan January 6 Commission

Six Republican Senators ended up supporting creation of the bipartisan January 6 Commission, to do a thorough investigation of the US Capitol Insurrection, with the proposal failing 54-35 in the Senate last Friday.

Five of the six Republican Senators also supported conviction of Donald Trump on impeachment charges, including

Mitt Romney of Utah
Lisa Murkowski of Alaska
Susan Collins of Maine
Ben Sasse of Nebraska
Bill Cassidy of Louisiana

Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania was absent for the vote, but said he would have joined the others in support, as he did on the conviction of Trump.

Also, Rob Portman of Ohio, who did not support conviction of Trump on impeachment charges, joined the five above Senators in voting for the commission, and should be commended.

Richard Burr of North Carolina, who supported conviction of Trump, failed to vote on the legislation, but indicated he would not have supported such a commission.

The 35 House Republicans Who Supported Creation Of A January 6 Insurrection Commission, But Will Senate Republicans Follow?

The number of House Republicans who supported the impeachment of Donald Trump in January, after the US Capitol Insurrection of January 6, was ten members.

The number of House Republicans who voted last week to support the creation of a January 6 Insurrection Commission is 35 members, which is one sixth of the Republican House membership, with 175 Republicans voting against the bill.

They come from 23 states, including 4 from New York; and 2 each from Florida, Texas, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Washington, Nebraska, Utah, and Arkansas.

The other states are California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Oregon, Indiana, South Carolina, West Virginia, Iowa, Wyoming, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Idaho.

The big question is whether 10 Republican Senators would go along with the creation of the January 6 Commission, and one would think the 7 Senators who voted to convict Trump in February 2021 (Mitt Romney, Ben Sasse, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Pat Toomey, Richard Burr, and Bill Cassidy) would do so, but already it seems unlikely that will happen!

It is believed that up to 15 Republican Senators “might’ support the creation of the Commission, but no certainty, when it should be supported by all who want the unvarnished truth!

In any case, there will be a House Commission formed by Nancy Pelosi, and the Republicans will nnly harm their own reputations, and their political futures, by working to deny a full investigation, with their full participation.

Covering up or denying reality will not play well, and will only doom the Republican Party future!

January 6 Commission Is Essential To Investigate, Hold Accountable, And Avoid Future Insurrection!

The creation of the January 6 Commission on the Capitol Insurrection is essential, in order to investigate, hold accountable, and avoid future such insurrections.

But only 35 Republicans voted for the Commission, along with all Democrats, making the vote 252-175.

However, all 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump in January came through, along with 25 other courageous Republicans, defying the leadership of Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise, the two leading Republican House leaders.

The Senate might prevent such a January 6 Commission, still uncertain, and it will undermine the Republican Party reputation if that occurs, so right now, the nation is in limbo until the Senate vote occurs after a likely long debate.

Ten Republicans would need to support the creation of the Commission, but only seven Senators voted to convict Trump, so the question is whether those seven and three more will be willing to do the right thing!

A New Excuse For The January 6, 2021 US Capitol Insurrection: “Foxitus” Or “Foxmania”!

As more insurrectionists who engaged in the US Capitol Attack on January 6, 2021 are arrested and facing court dates while in prison, a new defense for their seditionist behavior is emerging.

Now the claim is that they were manipulated by the influence of Fox News Channel—what is being called “Foxitus” or “Foxmania”.

This is laughable as it demonstrates their ignorance and demonstrates how easily manipulated they are by lies and conspiracy theories.

It also shows how Fox News Channel, and also OANN (One America News Network) and Newsmax TV, and a multitude of other right wing websites poison the atmosphere and lie incessantly about the truth regarding the Presidential Election of 2020, promoting the “Big Lie” that Donald Trump won.

However, ignorance and prejudice is no excuse, and all of the insurrectionists should be prosecuted and sentenced to ten years or more in prison as traitors to America and its democracy!

Republicans Will Rue Continuing Loyalty To Donald Trump, As It Will Destroy Their Party!

The Republican Party is in its death knells, and seems not to realize it.

The continuing loyalty of many sycophantic Republicans to a man who lost the popular vote massively two times, who was impeached twice, and had the only bipartisan impeachment in American history, is stunning.

The Republicans lost control of the House of Representatives in 2018 during the Presidency of Donald Trump, and then lost the Senate in 2020-2021, and lost five states Trump won in 2016—Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona.

139 House members and 8 Senators in the party voted to refuse to accept the victory of President Joe Biden in the Presidential Election of 2020, and in effect, incited and encouraged the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, causing the death of five people, including Capitol police officers.

And these traitors, seditionists, white supremacists, racists, nativists, misogynists continue to undermine American democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law four months later, and insist on promoting the “Big Lie” that Donald Trump won, and they refuse to accept the truth of Russian collusion in the Presidential Election of 2016.

They continue to back a Fascist authoritarian who has no interest in issues facing the nation, as a result of his failure to deal with the COVID 19 Crisis, and still has one third of the nation defying science, and promoting lawlessness, violence, and repudiation of common sense and facts!

There is a movement developing among responsible conservatives, including former office holders, some courageous members of Congress, and conservative spokesmen, who understand that Donald Trump and his extremist right wing movement is poisoning the atmosphere, promoting division and hatred, and threatening the political, economic, and social stability of the nation as it faces a multitude of challenges, both domestic and foreign.

So the “crazy” Trump followers in the Republican Party will rue the day they gave their loyalty to the madman in Mar A Lago, as it is in process of being destroyed!

Elise Stefanik Sells Her Soul To Grab Third Ranking Position In House From Liz Cheney

New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has sold her soul to Donald Trump at the young age of 36, grabbing the third ranking House Republican leadership position from Liz Cheney.

Starting off as a moderate Republican, Stefanik has now proved she is a sycophant, bowing to the Fascist dictator, Donald Trump, who is destroying the Republican Party.

By all rights, Stefanik should lose her seat, as she has no conscience, and cannot fathom that Liz Cheney is totally accurate in her view of the January 6 Capitol Insurrection.

Instead, Stefanik has swallowed the “Big Lie”, that Donald Trump won the Presidential Election of 2020 over Joe Biden, when more than 60 legal cases, and the Supreme Court, proved otherwise!

Stefanik is a traitor to American values, and will go down in history as having backed a criminal conspiracy, while Cheney will go down in history as a “Profile in Courage”.

This has nothing to do with whether one agrees with Cheney on her conservative values, which this author disagrees with profusely, but simply standing for American democracy and the Constitution against an authoritarian, Fascist take over that is destroying the heritage of the Republican Party in history!

Florida An Outlier, Likely To Continue To Defy Common Decency By Government Leaders

This author and blogger lives in the “Sunshine” State, Florida, and has lived in South Florida since the summer of 1989.

Sadly, Florida has some of the most horrendous political leaders imaginable, with the state legislature heavily Republican, and promoting right wing extremism in every way they can.

The Governor, Ron DeSantis, has no concern about public health in the midst of the COVID 19 Pandemic.

The former Governor, now a US Senator, Rick Scott, has a record of Medicare fraud, but was allowed to run for public office after paying a fine, rather than serve time in prison, and he has a steel heart.

The other Senator, Marco Rubio, is a mediocre Senator and not very bright, although less harmful than DeSantis and Scott.

Only in South Florida do Democrats have much impact, other than in selected Congressional districts in the central part of the state.

And Florida is the home of the disgraced former President, Donald Trump, who continues to divide the nation, and perpetrate a big lie that he won the Presidential Election Of 2020, and he has blood on his hands by having incited the US Capitol Insurrection on January 6, 2021.

Florida desperately needs a renaissance in state government and in national representation, as it is an outlier defying common decency, and is likely to see all three statewide officials competing for President in 2024, unless Trump is somehow able to poison the nation again.

In any case, right now, all three Florida leaders are competing with many others for Trump’s endorsement and support, so common decency is not present in Florida Government in 2021.
